After the surgery the patients are normally given a course of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops.
Till now you have come to know about lasik eye surgery as what exactly it is and how it’s different from other eye surgery. The Lasik Eye Surgery procedurehas proved to be very effective and safe for most ranges of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism and is easily accepted. Here in this section we will discuss about the working procedure of lasik eye surgery.
The procedure:
Patients who are wearing soft contact lenses are usually instructed to stop wearing them for about 7 to 10 days before surgery. Before the surgery, the surfaces of the patient's corneas are checked with a computer-controlled scanning instrument to find out their exact shape. Using this information, the surgeon calculates the amount and locations of corneal tissue to be removed during the operation.
The operation is performed with the patient awake and mobile; however, the patient typically is given a mild sedative and anesthetic eye drops. An instrument called a microkeratome is used in LASIK eye surgery to create a thin, circular flap in the cornea. A newer way of making the flap is with a laser.
Lasik
eye surgery is performed in two steps. The initial step is to create a flap
of corneal tissue. This process is achieved with a mechanical microkeratome
using a metal blade, or a femtosecond laser microkeratome (procedure known
as IntraLASIK) which creates a sequence of small closely set bubbles inside
the cornea. A hinge is left at one end of this flap. The surgeon folds the
flap back out of the, revealing the stroma, the middle section of the cornea.
Next, the surgeon uses an excimer laser to remodel the corneal stroma. Some
of the corneal tissues are vaporized by the laser which allows precision control.
This control means that adjoining parts of the stroma are not injured by releasing
the molecular bonds which hold cells together. The layers of tissue that are
removed are just micrometers thick, another advantage of laser precision. The
process of lifting and folding back the flap can be uncomfortable. The patient's
vision will become very blurry once the flap is lifted. He/she will be able
to see only white light adjacent to the orange light of the laser. This can
be disorienting. Performing the laser ablation in the deeper corneal stroma
typically provides for more rapid visual recovery and less pain.
After the surgery the patients are normally given a course of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops. These are stopped in the weeks following surgery. A darkened pair of goggles is also given to the patients to protect their eyes from bright lights and defensive shields to prevent rubbing of the eyes when asleep.
East London Getting Sexual Health Clinic Test Results By Text On Their Mobile Phones
Patients in East London are now choosing to receive the results of their sexual health clinic tests by text message on their mobile phones. The new telephone texting service from Ambrose King Sexual Health Clinic at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, informs patients of their results within a week of their visit to the clinic.
AVMA Revises Policy On Ear Cropping And Tail Docking
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Executive Board voted to strengthen association policy on two practices common in certain breeds of dogs-ear cropping and tail docking. The revised AVMA policy states: "The AVMA opposes ear cropping and tail docking of dogs when done solely for cosmetic purposes.
